The Broken Regime

SETTING

A pre-revolution France with a political and social system heavily inspired by the ideals of the Ancién Regime. At the head of this Regime is an immortal ruler known as the Emperor Eternal, the most powerful of the venerated.

The venerated are superior to their human counterparts in every way. Physically more imposing, stronger, smarter, better looking, they are in their own eyes the perfect creation and rightfully the rulers of men. But their ultimate power is the magic that they can use.

Magic users all, the venerated are the lords and rulers of this world while the humans are their serfs, the peasants, and in many cases their slaves.

MAGIC SYSTEM

The source of the venerated’s power comes from their Amarant Stones. There are five stones, each giving the venerated access to a different magical ability. These stones are embeded into the venerated’s forehead, and they glow when engaged. All venerated have at least one stone, while the more stones that you have, the more powerful you are politically. Only one venerated has all five stones, the Emperor Eternal.

When these stones are engaged, it is called Premdomince. Engaging a stone allows the user to see aether, the magical essence of the gods who the venerated helped to build this world. Each source of aether offers its own power.

Having one stone allows the venerated to control fire and water and air. They cannot produce it, only manipulate what is there. Often to great effect.

The second stone increases the physical strength of the venerated.

The third stone heals, using aether drawn from plantlife as its source.

The fourth stone uses light as its source, allowing its user to shoot powerful beams of energy as well as giving them FAR greater control of the first three stones. Where one stone might be comparable to strumming a guiter, having the fourth stone lets you pluck the strings and better manipulate. Only ten venerated have this stone.

The fifth stone is mind control and mind reading.
